Building Effective Training Programs
Training is SO important to your business—it sets expectations, it mitigates legal risks, and it increases the productivity of your team!
While creating training programs can be overwhelming, I am going to share with you some simple steps to get you started in creating learning opportunities in your company. Follow these simple steps to get started on developing a training program for your company:
Define the Goals: Understanding where you want to end up is important for developing employee training. Outline what you want the employee to understand, take away, and apply when they are done with their training program.
Develop Resources: Decide how they are going to learn the information to meet the learning goals of the program. This may require you to develop materials and content such as documented processes, training videos, or guides.
Set Realistic Timelines: Break down learning information into realistic segments to allow the employee time to learn the information and apply it. When scheduling training, keep in mind day-to-day operations and expectations and set deadlines accordingly.
Get Feedback: Assess effectiveness of training by getting feedback from both the employee and anyone participating in their training. Monitor trends in feedback over time and make any necessary updates, as needed.
Follow Up: Follow up to make sure training has been completed and knowledge is being applied. This is a good time to assess if any further training is needed.
